The month of May has always been a busy, stressful, and yet exciting time for many of us undergraduates: loving the fact that the warmer weather is making headway (especially since the new fountain is finished!) and dreading the thought of studying for finals week. Let alone the turbulence of emotions of sisters have to face during graduation weekend. Without a break, to top off the restless month, comes Sigma Psi Zeta’s National Summer Convention. Needless to say this post has a lot to report, so get ready to be caught in the loop!
A little ways before finals week UAlbany’s Fraternity and Sorority Affairs held an end-of-the-year Awards ceremony for active Greek organizations on campus. On May 6th 2014, the University saw our chapter’s efforts throughout the academic year and presented us the award for “Community Involvement”. Photo credits from this night go to Nancy Lauricella “Starr” from the Alpha Delta Class. Thank you Nancy for showering us with your unconditional support!

Exactly 10 days after, on a beautiful warm sunny day, the University At Albany’s 170th Commencement took place. Congratulations to the Class of 2014 and to our recent alumnae: (photo: going left to right) Katherine Jo “Armada”, Elizabeth Aritonang “Valiha”, Allison Fox “invigorate”, Michelle Truong “MAZETARI”. You already know the active chapter wishes you ladies nothing but the very best in the direction of your future endeavors. We will try to best exemplify all the things each and every one has taught us during the times we got to create and share together. ♥

Of course we didn’t let graduating seniors off the hook that quickly. We got to bother them some more because it just so turned out all 4 graduated sisters agreed to fly out with us. We packed our suitcases and flew out to New Orleans, Louisiana for SYZ National Convention 2014: Cirque Du Sigma!
Sisters who went to convention stayed in the La Quinta on Camp Street. It was the perfect walking distance between the all surrounding entertainment and the convention site. This year our keynote guest speaker was Tracy Maxwell from CAMPUSPEAK. The topic she guided us into discussion was about hazing. She believes that one of the best things we can do about hazing is to talk about the problem openly and honestly. Tracy shared a few moving stories that exists in peoples lives due to hazing. Her insight helped sisterships become more aware of this issue and how to deal with it on a personal level as well as a national one. In addition to the number of workshops, presentations, and sessions we got to participate in voting in EBOD elections as well as vote for our National Convention 2016 location.
On the last day of Convention we went to Mardi Gras World. We got to mix with other sistership chapters and charters with the opportunity to learn about the history behind New Orleans’s famous festival, Fat Tuesday aka Mardi Gras. Later that night was the banquet that closed out convention weekend. We got to see a couple performances from the newest editions to Sigmas: Alpha Eta Charter and Alpha Theta Charter. Our votes were counted and it was declared that our Summer National Convention in 2016 will take place in Austin, Texas! EBOD also presented their winning candidates for 2014-2015. Sigma Psi Zeta witness many milestones that night, another one being that Xi Charter officially became a Chapter status. Last but not least Sistership awards were announced and to our surprise, we proudly received not only one but two out of the ten Rays: Activism and Professionalism!!
Convention took place May 23rd to the 25th but we spent a couple extra days, outside of convention time, to explore the excitement and the culture of the amazing city. Here are a few photos that I personally took through out the duration of my very first convention :)

(I seriously cannot wait for wix.com to update their editor page so that I don't need to link each photo that I want to share with you guys -__-. I can only imagine how annoying it must be for you when a new window every time you click on a link, too!)
Like I said May is a long month and a lot has happened within the last 30 days. I hope that this post gave you a quick overview about how our crazy some of our lives were. Now that summer is about to be in full swing we hope to continue to keep in touch and possibly meet up! Many of us, including myself, will be in Albany, NY for the next couple of months. If you would like to take a weekend or any day of the week to give us a visit, let us know!
