October is not only Breast Cancer Awareness Month but also Domestic Violence Awareness Month. We had our fifth annual BREAK THE SILENCE WEEK from October 6th to October 10th.

On Monday 10/06, we had our Candlight Vigil where we paid respects to those who have been victims of domestic violence in order to spread the awareness to our Albany community.

On Tuesday 10/07. we personally counted bags of jellybeans that was placed inside a mason jar and ran a fundraiser challenge. The closest person to guessing how many jellybeans were in the jar won not only the jar of jellybeans but also a $25 giftcard of their choice! & Our winner was Michelle Truong who guessed 1,350 as there were 1,354 jellybeans in the jar! Congrats Michelle!

On Wednesday 10/08, we brought back our Passions Party! Many thanks to Carol Stenger and Michaela for speaking about how to have safe sex and showcasing merchandise! Passions party is time for women to express their sexuality and become more aware of how to have safe sex and how to use toys for their own entertainment.

On Thursday 10/09, we had a Classroom Jeopardy on topics relating to both domestic violence and sexual violence with the sisters of Delta Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. Thank you to all of our participants and hoped you gained more knowledge on violence occurring in today's society. & great job to Juliet Shen for helping host the program.

On Friday 10/10, it was time to dress up! Every Fall semester, the sisters of Sigma Psi Zeta Sorority, Inc. Alpha Chapter hosts an annual Break the Silence Banquet. When we say break the silence, it is regarding our national philanthropy: to combat the violence against women. Many victims are unable to speak up about being abused and this problem still goes unknown to the public. Although our philanthopy is to spread awareness for violence against women but we also speak up about men being abused. Our banquet chairs, Christine Huang and Diana Tran and our philanthropy chair Angela Yim did a great job planning banquet and planning our Break the Silence week! We were able to fundraise more for Equinox, a shelter for battered women, here in downtown Albany.
