Asian Occasion 2014
One of the biggest events of the fall semester occurred last weekend on Saturday, November 22. Asian Occasion is an annual show hosted in the fall semester by UAlbany’s Asian Organizational Council (AOC). Every year, all of UAlbany's cultural groups such as CSA, JSA, KSA, ASIA, and LIGA come together to put on a cultural show for the end of the semester. There are traditional and modern performances. They also invite other groups such as multicultural Greek organizations and other student groups on campus. This year, the show was held at “The Egg” which was in downtown Albany. It was definitely very new for all of us and it was a great experience performing there for the first time.
The theme this year was “Secret Agents” and I think we pulled it off very well. We even made t-shirts to go with our skit! It had “Secret Agent” on the front, “Alpha” on the left shoulder, and each of our nicknames on the back of the shirt. We started off our performance with our shirts and surprised everyone with what we wore beneath the shirts. We had gold sparkly tops and we shined throughout our performance.
The active house of Alpha Chapter has worked so hard the past month or two, practicing for our performance. Our performance chairs, Ashley “Vénamoris” and Betty “LéKora” spent a lot of time putting the performance together. Thanks to Julie “Signature” and Tesera “Kevlar” for making outstanding strolls for our performance! The week following up to the big day, we had “hell week”. We had practice every day until 1 or 2 AM (whenever the last bus was). It was a hectic week but everyone pulled through!
We want to give a special thank you and shout out to all the sisters who came all the way to the Motherland and supported us. To see the amount of support we get each year at AO is really just heartwarming. To hear all of our sisters scream in the crowd for us is always so soothing in a way. For a lot of us, it was our last AO and it meant the world to us that you ladies came.
I’m hoping Asian Occasion 2015 will be even bigger and have a bigger success. As always, you all are always welcome to come! Even if it's not AO, holla at an Alpha and we can set up a sister hangout (we love to eat)! Until next time, stay tuned!
With love,
Betty “LéKora” <3
